Trap Shooting in Southern Ontario

A shooter's guide from London, Ontario: what to carry to the line, how to choose your pouch and vest, and how we get it to you anywhere from Windsor to the GTA.

Southern Ontario is clay country. From the farm fields of Middlesex and Oxford counties to the escarpment above Hamilton and the shores of Lake Huron and Lake Erie, the region is home to a deep community of trap, skeet and sporting clays shooters.

What to carry for trap, skeet and sporting clays

A round of American trap is 25 targets from five stations. Most shooters carry a single shell pouch holding one 25-round box, with exterior loops to keep the next pair in hand. Skeet adds doubles at several stations, while sporting clays courses can see you walk a mile or more between stands, which is where a hull bag or a cartridge bag earns its place.

  • A shell pouch or hull bag on the belt, sized for at least one box
  • A competition vest with full-length shoulder pads for a consistent mount
  • Eye and ear protection, kept together in a range bag
  • A towel, a choke wrench and a spare set of chokes
  • A structured case or range bag for the truck, holding several flats

Choosing a shell pouch

Look for a rigid mouth that stays open when you reach without looking, a secure belt clip that does not rotate, and loops that hold shells firmly but release with one finger. Leather matters: a full-grain hide keeps its shape for years, and a suede lining stops shells rattling between pairs. Left-handed shooters should always be able to choose a mirrored pouch — every PairShot piece is offered in both hands.

Choosing a shooting vest

A good trap or skeet vest gives you a full-length, non-slip shoulder pad so the gun mounts in exactly the same place every time. Mesh panels matter in an Ontario July; generous bellowed pockets matter in October gloves. Our competition vests are ambidextrous and cut to be worn over a shirt or a light fleece.

Questions

Frequently asked

Do you deliver trap shooting gear across Southern Ontario?

Yes. We ship from London, Ontario to every community in Southern Ontario, including St. Thomas, Woodstock, Stratford, Sarnia, Windsor, Kitchener-Waterloo, Guelph, Hamilton, the Niagara region and the Greater Toronto Area. Express orders typically arrive the next business day in the region, and standard delivery is complimentary on orders over $150.

Can I see PairShot pieces in person in London, Ontario?

Yes. Our London atelier welcomes clients by private appointment for viewing, bespoke consultations and order collection. Request a time on our Visit page.

What should I carry for a round of trap?

A round of American trap is 25 targets, so most shooters carry a pouch that holds one 25-round box with loops for the next pair, plus a towel, eye and ear protection. For sporting clays or doubles, a hull bag or cartridge bag gives room for more shells and a place for spent hulls.

What is the difference between a shell pouch and a hull bag?

A shell pouch has a single compartment for live shells. A hull bag adds a second rear compartment, often with a tall flap, so you can drop spent hulls without mixing them with live rounds — useful for reloaders and for keeping ranges tidy.

Are your pouches available for left-handed shooters?

Yes. Every PairShot shell pouch and hull bag is available in right- or left-handed configuration; choose your hand on the product page.

Do I need a firearms licence to buy shooting accessories?

No. Our leather goods, bags and vests are accessories and do not require a PAL to purchase. We do not sell firearms or ammunition.

Where are PairShot products made?
